About

A teenager racing to cure the virus that is turning her into a zombie also becomes the only witness to a murder.

With the exception of losing her older sister in a hit-and-run, 17-year-old Tia Scott has had a fairly ordinary life. That changes when she begins showing strange symptoms and works out that she has caught a virus which is slowly turning her into a zombie.

Desperate for a cure, the only person she trusts is Flynn, a loner at school and a self-proclaimed expert in the paranormal. Her position gets worse when a friend of her boyfriend Connor is murdered, because Tia knows who was involved and going to the police would make her a target.

With the clock running down until she is too far gone to recover, she brings in her mother Kate and a reclusive doctor in the hope of stopping the disease before the killer works out that she is the witness.

Zombie at 17 (2018) is part of Christine Conradt's long-running "at 17" cycle of Lifetime television films, each a self-contained story about a teenage girl whose life is derailed by a single event.

  • It shares its cinematographer, editor and composer with Pregnant at 17 (2016) and Murdered at 17 (2018).

Critical Reception

Zombie at 17 is the outlier of the sequence, swapping the cycle's usual grounded threat for an infection story while keeping the same structure of a teenage girl racing a deadline she cannot tell anyone about. On IMDb the film holds an average user rating of approximately 4.7 out of 10 from around 270 votes, the second lowest in the series.

Production

The "at 17" series

Christine Conradt wrote nine Lifetime television films sharing the "... at 17" title pattern, running from Dead at 17 (2008) through to Murdered at 17 (2018) and Zombie at 17 (2018). The films are not a continuing story and share no characters; what links them is a common formula, in which an otherwise ordinary teenage girl makes one decision, or suffers one piece of bad luck, that exposes her to adult danger.

Zombie at 17 is the ninth and final film in the sequence, released three months after Murdered at 17 (2018).
