About

A woman tries to save her adopted daughter from a dangerous man, with help from the girl's biological mother.

Candace is a teenager caught up with someone who means her harm, and when she disappears the search for her falls to the two women who each have a claim on her.

The film's distinguishing turn is that the adoptive mother who raised her and the birth mother who gave her up have to work together to find her, a pairing that forces both of them to confront what they owe the girl and each other.

Missing at 17 (2013) is part of Christine Conradt's long-running "at 17" cycle of Lifetime television films, each a self-contained story about a teenage girl whose life is derailed by a single event.

Production

Missing at 17 was directed by Doug Campbell from a screenplay by Christine Conradt, and produced by Ken Sanders and Robert Ballo, with Christine Conradt, Pierre David and Tom Berry as executive producers. Robert Ballo also served as director of photography, with editing by Gregory Hobson and music by Steve Gurevitch.

The "at 17" series

Christine Conradt wrote nine Lifetime television films sharing the "... at 17" title pattern, running from Dead at 17 (2008) through to Murdered at 17 (2018) and Zombie at 17 (2018). The films are not a continuing story and share no characters; what links them is a common formula, in which an otherwise ordinary teenage girl makes one decision, or suffers one piece of bad luck, that exposes her to adult danger.

Missing at 17 is the fifth in the sequence, following Stalked at 17 (2012), and the last to be made by the Ken Sanders and Robert Ballo unit before the series moved to the Canadian production team that made the remaining four films.
