Featured Movie of the Week: Resident Evil (2026)
Zach Cregger's reboot of the video game series opened on September 18, 2026 to $60 million domestically and $108.3 million worldwide, against a $75 million budget. Austin Abrams plays Bryan, a medical courier trying to deliver a package to a hospital in Raccoon City on the night of the outbreak, with Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry and Kali Reis as the Umbrella staff around him. Cregger co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten, and the film runs a lean 94 minutes. It had reached $220 million worldwide and $110.6 million domestically by October 1, and holds a 96% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes from 284 reviews alongside a 91% audience score.
Spotlight on Talent: Tom Cruise
This month's spotlight falls on Tom Cruise, who steps away from action franchises to play oil tycoon Digger Rockwell in Digger (2026), released on October 2. Alejandro G. Iñárritu directs the satirical black comedy, about a magnate whose company causes an environmental catastrophe, with Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons and Michael Stuhlbarg in support.

Verity (2026) - New on October 2. Michael Showalter directs the adaptation of Colleen Hoover's thriller, with Dakota Johnson as a struggling writer hired to finish the novels of a bestselling author, played by Anne Hathaway, who has been left incapacitated by a car accident. Josh Hartnett co-stars. Runs 1 hour 57 minutes.
Digger (2026) - Also new on October 2. Alejandro G. Iñárritu's black comedy stars Tom Cruise and runs 2 hours 9 minutes.
Avengers Endgame: Encore - The re-release topped the September 25-27 weekend with $26.1 million from 3,060 theaters.
Resident Evil (2026) - Second in its second weekend with $23 million, lifting its domestic total past $103 million in ten days.
Heart of the Beast (2026) - David Ayer's survival thriller, with Brad Pitt as a Special Forces officer stranded in the Alaskan wilderness with his combat dog, opened in third place with $20 million.
Primetime (2026) - Lance Oppenheim's A24 thriller about the making of To Catch a Predator opened to $18.8 million. Robert Pattinson, Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers star.
Forgotten Island (2026) - DreamWorks Animation's adventure, set in a world drawn from Philippine folklore, opened to $13 million. Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado direct a voice cast led by H.E.R. and Liza Soberano.

Clayface (2026) - October 23. James Watkins directs the DC horror from a story by Mike Flanagan, with Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, an actor whose body is turned into living clay. Naomi Ackie and Max Minghella co-star.
