Cate Blanchett (born 14 May 1969) is an Australian actress and theatre director widely regarded as one of the finest performers of her generation. Across independent dramas and blockbuster franchises she has earned numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, four BAFTA Awards and four Golden Globes.
Blanchett won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator (2004), and the Academy Award for Best Actress for Blue Jasmine (2013). She gained early international recognition as Queen Elizabeth I in Elizabeth (1998), a role she reprised in Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007). She is also known to global audiences as Galadriel in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies, and as the villain Hela in Thor: Ragnarok (2017).
