Christopher Nolan

Christopher Nolan (born 30 July 1970) is a British-American filmmaker known for cerebral, often non-linear storytelling, for shooting on large-format film rather than digital, and for building spectacle out of practical effects wherever possible. He writes or co-writes almost everything he directs, and produces through Syncopy, the company he runs with his wife and long-time producer Emma Thomas.
Nolan made his debut with the self-funded Following (1998), then broke through with the reverse-chronology thriller Memento (2000). He reinvented Batman on screen across Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012), and built a run of original blockbusters in Inception (2010), Interstellar (2014), Dunkirk (2017) and Tenet (2020). Oppenheimer (2023) won him the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture. His adaptation of Homer, The Odyssey (2026), is the first feature shot entirely with IMAX film cameras and holds the best critical scores of his career.
